Purpose
 

This is a temporary position for up to 3 months. The role supports Research & Development (R&D) projects for the Technical Services group. Responsibilities may include assisting the lab with special projects and analyses, such as Round Robins, and providing backup for other lab positions as needed. The position involves preparing samples and performing physical and chemical analyses on green and calcined coke using assigned analytical procedures.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ability to work independently on R&D projects, including reporting and statistical analysis of data.
  • Perseverance, self-motivation and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Receives and logs specialty samples.
  • Prepares samples for required analyses.
  • Performs specified chemical and physical analyses per procedure.
  • Uses computer database and lab notebook to store and track analytical data/results.
  • Reports problems or safety issues/incidents to management.
  • Troubleshoot instrument issues.
  • Participates in the continuous improvement of product and lab processes.
  • Performs other duties as required.


Physical Demands and Work Environment
 

The employee is regularly required to lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds, periodically required to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. While performing chemical and physical analyses, the employee works near moving mechanical parts and performs certain tests involving high temperature equipment. Appropriate PPE is required when performing certain analyses. The noise level in the work environment may require hearing protection.


Job Requirements 
 

Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in science related field from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to apply basic math concepts. Ability to use a computer for Microsoft Office Suite, other databases, and software on instruments. Ability to communicate with all levels of the company employees verbally and written.
