Purpose
Rain Carbon is a leading global producer of carbon-based products and advanced materials that support critical industries worldwide. Our Robinson, Illinois facility plays an important role in our U.S. manufacturing operations, and we are seeking an experienced Safety, Health & Environmental (SH&E) Specialist to champion safety excellence, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance across the site.
Responsibilities
Safety Leadership:
- Lead and promote a strong, employee-focused safety culture across the facility.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce risk and prevent injuries.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, risk assessments, and field observations.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and OSHA recordable events using root cause analysis methodologies.
- Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions to eliminate hazards.
- Maintain OSHA compliance and support regulatory inspections.
- Facilitate Safety Committee meetings and employee engagement activities.
- Track, analyze, and communicate safety performance metrics and trends.
Environmental Compliance:
- Manage environmental compliance programs and ensure adherence to federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Maintain compliance with site permits and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Coordinate environmental inspections, audits, and corrective action plans.
- Partner with operations and engineering teams to identify opportunities for reducing environmental impacts.
- Serve as a site resource on environmental permitting and compliance matters.
Training & Employee Development:
- Coordinate and deliver site safety training programs.
- Ensure compliance with required regulatory and company training standards.
- Develop educational materials and awareness campaigns that reinforce safe work practices.
- Coach supervisors and employees on SH&E expectations and best practices.
Programs, Procedures & Systems:
- Develop, maintain, and improve SH&E policies, procedures, and management systems.
- Support contractor safety programs and site access requirements.
- Monitor regulatory changes and communicate impacts to site leadership.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and compliance documentation for management and regulatory agencies.
Job Requirements
Experience working in chemical processing, refinery, calcination, carbon, mining, metals, or other process manufacturing environments preferred.
- Experience supporting environmental permitting and regulatory reporting.
- Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) principles.
- Experience leading behavior-based safety initiatives.
