Purpose of the job:


We are looking for a skilled R&D Process Technologist to support day-to-day operations and maintenance at our pilot-scale Demonstration Facility in close collaboration with our R&D team while being member of the R&D project team working on new products, processes, and applications. This is a hands-on role that blends a solid understanding of process engineering with practical experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance. 
This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys both understanding how a process works and getting hands-on with equipment that means operating machines, fixing mechanical issues, or troubleshooting electrical problems in an R&D environment. A valid forklift operator license is an advantage, as material handling is also part of the day-to-day responsibilities.
 

Duties & Responsibilities:


Pilot Plant Operations & R&D Support


Operate and monitor pilot-scale equipment for carbon powder processing, including jet mills, mixers, high-temperature furnaces, packaging units and pneumatic/hydraulic conveyors.
Actively participate in R&D trials, ensuring safe and efficient execution of experiments.
Collaborate with the team to adapt equipment and processes based on experimental needs.
Provide hands-on and support during trials and routine operations.
Operate a forklift to move materials, equipment, and product safely within the facility.

 

Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance


Perform regular preventive maintenance and basic repairs on mechanical and electrical systems.
Troubleshoot equipment issues to minimize downtime and ensure smooth trial execution.
Work with external contractors for complex repairs or upgrades as needed.
Maintain maintenance logs and track equipment performance over time.

 

Process Monitoring & Optimization


Track key process parameters and adjust equipment settings to improve performance and product quality.
Work in a project team on the development of new products, processes, and technical applications of Rain Carbon’s products.
Work with the team to implement changes and improvements to processes and equipment.
Assist in developing and updating operating procedures based on hands-on insights.

 

Safety & Environmental Responsibility


Ensure all plant activities meet internal safety protocols and external regulatory requirements.
Promote a safe and clean working environment through proper housekeeping, material handling, and PPE usage.
Conduct pre-use inspections and always maintain equipment safe, including forklift operation.

 

Documentation & Reporting


Keep accurate records of process operations, trial results, maintenance activities, and material inventory.
Be able to write technical reports and communicate insights with the team.

 

Team Collaboration & Training


Work as part of a multidisciplinary R&D team and share practical knowledge across functions.
Assist in training technicians in plant operation, safety practices, and basic maintenance.
Be an active link between lab-scale research and pilot-scale implementation.

 

Procurement & Inventory Support


Assist in identifying technical needs for spare parts, consumables, and new equipment.
Manage inventory of raw materials and tools.

 

Job requirements:


Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.

 

Experience: At least 4 years of proven experience in pilot or industrial plant environments, preferably in carbon powder processing.
Strong background in operating and maintaining mechanical and electrical systems.
Experience working in R&D or innovation-focused environments is a plus.

 

Skills: Comfortable in working with a variety of powder processing equipment and control systems.
Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, safety-first mindset.
Good communication and collaboration skills.
Fluent professional command of oral and written English language, knowledge of Chinese language would be an advantage.

 

License: Valid forklift operator license with prior experience in safe materials handling.
