Purpose

Responsible for planning and monitoring Gramercy and Norco plant production and Gramercy terminal blending that minimizes the cost of customer shipments and meets customer quality specifications. Participates in Rain Carbon’s US production planning process as a member of the Production Control (PC) Team. Monitors Gramercy and Norco green and calcined coke inventory to ensure appropriate materials are available.

Duties & Responsibilities

This position reports to the Director of Materials Management. Routine internal contacts include Sales, Raw Materials, Logistics, Technical, Operations, and the Laboratory. Key responsibilities for the role include the following:

  • Plans and monitors Gramercy and Norco calcined petroleum coke production (CPC) and communicate plans to Operations teams at both plants. Measures include: achievement of daily CPC quality targets; tracking of raw material volumes used and costs, tracking of green coke and calcined coke logistic costs, number of in-specification shipments and non-conforming shipments produced at plants.
  • Schedule transfers of materials between the two facilities and coordinate with the logistics team.
  • Optimize raw material costs, including logistics components.  Determine the final blend cost of shipments and report on same.
  • Provide daily feedback to plant operations on achievement of quality targets and develop plans with Operations and Technical Teams to correct deviations. Document corrective and preventive actions as required.
  • Track and quantify performance of the Gramercy and Norco production planning and control function. Measures include: product quality consistency; final product quality vs projected and targeted quality.
  • Maintain accurate data on calcined and green coke inventories at Gramercy and Norco.  Responsible for initiating periodic inventory measurements from inventory surveys as needed in SAP for both plants.
  • Develop detailed knowledge of company-wide SAP system. Ensure SAP data entries completed accurately and in timely manner. Measures include: maintenance of key SAP data and successful month-end SAP balances.

The Gramercy and Norco plants work within an integrated Rain Carbon production planning system, and this role is responsible for helping to minimize global as well as local costs. Measures include adherence to budgeted blend costs and conversion costs.

Job Requirements

The position requires a science or engineering related undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience in production/inventory planning and control. Strong analytical skills are required, including the ability to dealing with multiple variables to optimize production and raw material usage, incorporation of calciner and terminal processes/limitations, and a detailed understanding of coke quality. Other essential skills include communication, teamwork, organization, and computer applications including optimization and ERP (SAP preferred) software. Self -motivation and demonstration of sound judgment in decision making is expected. The position requires periodic on-call status during periods of critical production or vessel loading activities.
